Happy 21st birthday to us!

I don’t usually do self-congratulatory posts, but I’ll make an exception today because I realise that we’ve been in business for 21 years today – and 21 years feels like a milestone! Here goes:

  • Weโ€™ve placed many hundreds of people in permanent and contract jobs, making a significant positive difference to a large number.
  • Weโ€™re now a full-service IT recruitment company recruiting entire IT teams from support engineers to CIOs.
  • We have relationships with many companies โ€“ mainly in the Midlands โ€“ who use us to do all their IT recruitment on an exclusive basis. Most of these are medium-sized businesses with IT departments of between 5 and 100 people.
  • Weโ€™ve helped startup businesses to recruit their very first people โ€“ key appointments weโ€™re proud to have had a hand in.
  • We survived the recession of 2008, grew during covid, and we are busy even in the current uncertain market.

  • World domination โ€“ weโ€™re still a boutique firm serving a relatively small number of clients. But we like it that way!
  • Perfection โ€“ we have had a few failures along the way. Some people have left jobs sooner than we hoped, others havenโ€™t started jobs at all, and one or two have caused trouble on their way out. Although not our fault, itโ€™s always disappointing.
  • Maintained relationships with all our clients. Things change: businesses get bought out or go bust, key contacts retire or move on, new HR directors come along. All these things will challenge the best relationships. Sometimes weโ€™ve been the beneficiaries though. Sorry, other agencies!
  • Specialisation โ€“ we have tried to identify a particular niche several times, but have always come back to full-service IT recruitment. Because our clients ask us to.

  • We use LinkedIn every day – in early 2003, it didnโ€™t exist.
  • We do video interviews in all cases, unless weโ€™re asked not to. These are very useful, saving time for all parties and often eliminating the need for a complete interview round. Hinterview is the platform we use โ€“ highly recommended.
  • We donโ€™t work from Mattโ€™s in-lawsโ€™ annexe any more. Several office moves later weโ€™re now based from home most of the time โ€“ although we still have an address in Burton on Trent, famous as the world centre of brewing and IT recruitment.
  • We do finance recruitment too! Not directly though โ€“ we refer this to our partner company ABPM Recruitment Ltd.

Within the team weโ€™ve had marriages, divorces, births, bereavements, house moves, health scares, beard growth, hair loss, waistline changes, memorable holidays, and more. Children who werenโ€™t born when we started are now at university. Weโ€™re older, wiser, and better at recruitment.

So – a heartfelt thank you to all our supporters, employees past and present, people and businesses whoโ€™ve worked with us over the past 21 years. Family, too, of course. It’s been fun!
