why work placements count

Why work placements count

Here at Blues Point we’ve placed quite a few graduates in the last 12 months.  Some of them have been candidates we have suggested to our clients because experienced candidates with the skills they were looking for were few and far between, others were candidates who were invited to interview because they showed exceptional promise in one of our on-line IKM technical assessments.  Others demonstrated they had the aptitude to learn quickly and were flexible about relocation and travelling in order to secure a good opportunity.  But all of them had one thing in common – they had all done an integrated placement year in their degree where they picked up some valuable commercial experience.

This is not coincidence; that placement year proved early on that they had what it takes to thrive in a commercial setting, giving them a substantial advantage over candidates that had not done a placement year.  In the first instance, it is much easier for agencies and employers to understand what level you are at if you can talk about specific projects you have worked on and technologies you have used, rather than having to hypothesise and talk about things you are familiar with but have not actually used commercially.

We are always interested in talking to graduates with a good degree in Computing, Software Engineering or Business Information Systems, particularly candidates who have done a placement year wherein they worked as a software developer using C#, VB.Net or Java.  As most of our clients are based in the Midlands, candidates who live locally or who are flexible to relocate are of particular interest to us.  Some of the graduates we have placed recently have already found themselves gaining a fast-track to a more senior position because they have proved themselves to be hardworking and technically capable.

If this sounds like you, please feel free to contact us on 01283 530923 to discuss opportunities.  If this sounds like someone you know, please encourage them to get in touch with us as the market for good graduates in IT is really buoyant at the moment!
